Music and Emotions
Feedback following our workshop: Music & Emotions Workshops – Project Highlights
Thanks to funding from North Lincolnshire Council, Now Then Coaching CIC delivered a series of creative and inclusive Music & Emotions workshops for families around Barton upon Humber, North Lincolnshire.
The sessions offered a playful, supportive space for families—particularly those with primary-aged children—to explore emotions through music, rhythm, and discussion. Activities were designed to be child-led and adaptable, allowing every participant to engage in ways that suited their individual needs.
Following feedback, we made thoughtful changes throughout—swapping louder instruments for quieter ones, replacing workbooks with large floor-based paper activities, and ensuring all voices were heard. One child told us, “I do not like having to stay still,” which inspired us to bring in more active learning tools.
Parents and children alike found the sessions engaging and valuable:
“We loved the sessions. It has been great learning how music helps so much and also learning about our emotions and how the kids feel.”
“Really excellent sessions.”
“Music therapy is a great idea, I can see why it would work!”Families expressed a sense of community, with many children growing in confidence each week. While the timing of some sessions clashed with other local events, those who attended regularly said they would love to see the programme continue.
We’re proud to have created a space full of “lovely energy—kind and friendly” where music supported emotional expression and wellbeing. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to support families through creative, inclusive experiences.
